Born in Aosta, Italy, in 1980, Francesca Lupo is an artist and architect, living and working in Turin. After undertaking classical studies, she graduated in Architecture, and began working between Paris and Italy as an interior designer and restorer. For years, Francesca’s artistic expression remained an essential, yet silent, resource for her architectural practice until, in 2012, she exhibited a selection of her collages at Paratissima Art Fair, Turin, where she was ranked among its top 15 artists. Following her success at Paratissima, Francesca continued to exhibit in galleries and private collections across Italy and, in 2016, she was featured as a ‘Young Talent’ at the Affordable Art Fair, Milan. Francesca has been represented by Liberty Gallery since 2016, and has exhibited with them in London, Brussels, Edinburgh, Stockholm, Milan and New York.
Francesca’s work is recognised for its novelty and innovation. Her collages mix materials – the same ones used in her interior design projects – with fragments of manuscript, newspaper scraps, vintage tickets, and retro stamps, to create architectural perspectives of 1960s interiors. Like two-dimensional dioramas, these collaged interiors feature miniature cut-outs of iconic 60s celebrities, who appear to perform on the tiny stage Francesca sets.
