‘It’s Okay To Not Be Okay’ is from the ‘I Only Want Everything’ series. As you scroll the internet you may be bombarded with thousands of motivational quotes, and quotes about positivity etc.
On my mindfulness journey I have came across this radical positivity approach many times, which may be great for some, but sometimes it may make you feel inadequate, it was important for me to learn to accept all of my states, as it’s okay to not be okay sometimes, and as the emotions will certainly pass I wanted to give this version of my self some awareness, loving those bluer periods was the kindest thing I have done for myself.In the artwork you can also find some hints and homages to Artemisia Gentileschi, born Rome, 8 July 1593 she was one of the great artists of the Baroque – and one of the first women to represent female experience through the lens of allegory. And especially her famous painting Mary Magdalene as Melancholy.
